VMI does a lot of custom high voltage power supply designs, but did you know we also offer standard products like the high performance, high reliability power supplies for Helium Neon laser applications?

These units are available in industry standard packages, covering the output power range of 5 to 12 watts. Standard DC inputs are 12 and 15VDC.

High Voltage Electrostatic Power Supplies

     Portable electrostatic power supplies tend to be application specific devices.  Each product has it’s own unique electrical and mechanical requirements.

     Generally, these products operate at voltage levels up to 100kVDC and higher, while requiring minimum package size for reduced weight and overall assembly volume.

     Voltage stress distribution can be quite different from other applications, and great care must be taken in the following areas:
  • Material selection
  • Internal spacing
  • Component layout
  • Transient component stress
  • Circuit immunity  
     Load line shaping and stored energy are important parameters that must be considered at the beginning of the design cycle in order to meet both performance and safety requirements.

VMI’s experience in the design and manufacture of electrostatic power supplies can help customers solve these and other challenges for their most demanding electrostatic power supply needs.

VMI Power Supplies

     Using our state-of-the-art diode products and extensive background in multiplier manufacturing, VMI has developed a large number of high voltage power supplies to meet the unique requirements of our customers.

Custom designs include applications for -
  • Portable CRTs
  • HeNe Lasers
  • Electron Beam Generators
  • Image Intensifiers
  • Low Power X-rays
  • Electrostatic Painting and Coating

and most other areas where reliable, low power high voltage is needed.
     Most power supplies manufactured by VMI are custom designed to meet the specific requirements of each customer.
     Custom features include unique packaging, miniaturization, high reliability, assembly integration and high performance.  
     All aspects of design and manufacture are carried out in-house to maintain control and repeatability of each process. Modern, cost-effective SMT manufacturing methods are utilized for improved reliability and smallest possible footprint. Computer controlled automatic testing and 100% burn in are standard procedures to insure that customer specifications are met.
     VMI’s main focus is centered in the milliwatt to 25 watt power range. Input power can be supplied from either a DC or AC source.
  • Typical inputs - 9 to 24VDC or 115/230VAC.
  • Output voltages - 1kVDC to 125kVDC.
Units are normally encapsulated for minimum size, though air insulated designs are also possible. Conductive housings can be incorporated for shielding purposes to reduce EMI and RFI. Remote control, remote programming, output monitoring, output status and self-protective circuitry are typical design features.
